After making an incredibly stupid decision I just got podded by a gate camp - totally fairly and this is not a whinge in anyway.
However it did get me to thinking - there are 23 people in the camp, all presumably with super duper ships with all the latest modules and there is me - in a cheap crappy number looking to make a foolish shortcut. And lets face it all their 'prey' is going to be just like that too.
So where is the fun in that? we empire dwellers are constantly told how hard all you lowsec'ers are but really isn't this the equivalent of small boys pulling the wings of flies? - there was no challenge and I don't even see how it could be fun unless I am missing something..... I reckon I got the best deal since I got to see all the fireworks as my ship and pod went up.

except I am not crying - *at all* - it was totally fair - I just do not understand how from all the interesting experiences available in Eve how this one provides any sort of challenge or entertainment

While I was hoping that was the case - I am prepared to except that it is the lowsec equivalent of ratting and probably a much better bet at the weekend as well. Still surprised there are enough people as stupid as me to make it worth their while though.

People like you aren't worth it. Instead of asking "is gate camping worth it, where's the skill", you should be asking "why am I not worth killing? how can I get more skill?"
Once in a while somebody in expensive ship comes thru. Or somebody brings their own gang looking for a fight. That's when stuff happens.

So - I think there where 23 pirates that got me - is it even possible to put up a fight single handed* - and if so what skills/mods I am looking for?
*in this case it was just me on my own business - I can see how to put a team together to give them a good fight

I really object to that - I stated that it was not a whine and that I was killed through my own stupidity. Not being a pirate I had not seen the Isk gathering potential of gate camping, nor had I realized that there are as many people regularly as stupid as I was for that moment - the piece of information I was missing but that makes sense out of gate camping.
I have learned a lot from this thread - but it was not a whine.
